The Green Bard
If A Storm or Swords was a transition period for Dany’s dragons (call it their teen years), I would say that A Dance with Dragons is their final transition to adulthood. No longer are they lovable beasts; they are now dangerous creatures, with fully developed personalities – and wills – of their own. This applies to all 3, but especially to Drogon.
